Dorothy Best Death – We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Dorothy Best, a well-known and respected figure in education and sports. Her death has left us with a deep sense of loss. Dorothy died gently on Thursday, March 28, 2024, while serving as President of the Durham County Schools Athletic Association (DCSAA). She left a lasting legacy of steadfast commitment, compassion, and dedication to the students and schools she served.
Dorothy’s contributions to the DCSAA and the larger educational community cannot be emphasized. She was a guiding influence for many years, advocating for the virtues of sportsmanship, teamwork, and academic success. Her leadership was defined by integrity, impartiality, and a deep belief in the power of sports to improve people’s lives and affect their destiny. Her leadership was distinguished by these attributes.
During her tenure as President of the Discipline and Student-Athlete Association of America, Dorothy worked relentlessly to promote student-athlete welfare and ensuring that students have opportunity for growth, development, and success both on and off the field. Her uncompromising dedication to the health and well-being of every youngster in her care was equaled only by her enthusiasm for athletics. She approached her work with a sense of purpose and dedication that motivated everyone she worked with.
Dorothy was a treasured friend, mentor, and confidante to many people inside the DCSAA and beyond, in addition to her professional achievements. Even in the most terrible situations, her presence brought comfort and reassurance to those who knew her. Everyone who knew her admired her warmth, generosity, and genuine care for others. Dorothy’s constant support and encouragement raised spirits, encouraged camaraderie, and provided a sense of belonging that those who knew her will deeply miss. Dorothy’s kindness and assistance will be greatly missed.
We are saddened by Dorothy Best’s death, but we also celebrate the enormous impact she had on the lives of many. Her legacy of selflessness, leadership, and compassion will serve as an inspiration to future generations of student-athletes, educators, and community leaders. Even though she is no longer among us, her spirit will be remembered by the many people whose lives she touched and warmed.
