An investigation into a shooting that occurred on Main Street in Swanton, near Garfield Avenue, is underway, according to a dispatcher with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. The Swanton mayor said in a Facebook post that the chiefs of police and fire are of the opinion that a gunshot occurred within a car. There is no clear indication of location in the post; the shooting may have occurred outside of the town.
The motorist pulled over to help a passenger who was in distress while driving through the neighborhood, according to the mayor’s post. The passenger was found to have died at the scene. The motorist was examined by a doctor. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) sent forensic investigators to the scene so they could gather evidence. Until the inquiry is complete, the area of Main Street at Garfield Avenue will be closed.
